The Globe and Mail reported last week on the results of new studies on driver distraction and cell phone use. It doesn't look good.
The researchers tested adults in various driving scenarios while on a cell phone. An MRI was used to track brain activity. During high demand driving manoeuvres like left hand turns the participation of the brain's visual cortex dropped 15%, showing that the conversation was taking a considerable amount of attention away from the driving.
