Affluenza

In a very disturbing case in America recently a young man who was the undisputed drunk driver behind the wheel of a car killed four people and injured two more severely. The more disturbing aspect of his case was his plea to the court
In America he could have faced up to 20 years in prison for his reprehensible actions, but with his psychologist’s help he pleaded Affluenza. This is a new diagnosis which suggests that he is incapable of understanding the consequences of his actions because he is too rich and privileged. Testimony was given that he had never suffered a consequence for his actions at home, and never punished him. He had been allowed to drive at 13 and he lived alone in a mansion bought by his father.
The young man was sentenced to probation and therapy.
