The Ministry of Transportation announced last week that it is revamping the process for those driver's over 80 who wish to renew their driver's licences. Beginning in April those drivers over the age of 80 won't need to complete a written knowledge test, and will instead take part in s more streamlined renewal process.
The new renewal process includes:
- Vision Test
- Driver Record Review
- A group education session
- 2 screening exercises
Based on the results of the test the MTO can then identify drivers who may need further assessment like a medical exam or practical road test.
The Province of Ontario remains committed to helping senior stay connected and active in their communities and to keep them driving for as long as it's safe.
