Timing is Key for New Brain Injury Treatments

Traumatic Brain Injury treatments are being researched throughout the world as the recognition of how common and how damaging they are increases. New studies at the University of Adelaide in Australia have been studying changes in the 'brain water' in victims of concussion.
Two compounds are being tested that alter the flow of this water in and out of the brain. It appears there can be significant improvements in injury recovery when the compounds are administered at the correct time. The drugs have some control over brain swelling and moisture retention in the brain. Swelling in the brain results in less room for oxygen movement which in turn damages the brain.
This treatment will work on those who are suffering swelling post-concussion by helping to reduce fluid retention at later stages of recovery.
