A Finnish businessman was recently fined $58,000 for travelling 64 km/h in a 50 km/h. The man is a millionaire and was furious with his speeding ticket which he shared all over social media.

Nordic countries in general have a strong socialist bent, and emphasize progressive taxation and are characterized by high levels of social spending. Progressive punishment is also a part of their traditions. Under progressive punishment systems the richer the person, the higher the fines. The question is however, how much higher?

An average person would have paid about $370 in fines for the same ticket. Most people support this system of punishment and point out that the man willingly chose to travel faster than the speed limit.
