Look out if you are driving distracted. Whether that's with your phones at your ear, or in your lap the police are looking for you.
The new fines are in effect starting September 1, 2015, and there will be yet another education campaign about distractions. Makeup, food, phones, videos and reading are all distractions when driving. The fines are increasing to $300-$1000 with 3 demerit points upon conviction. Your insurance will be impacted with this fine, so you'll be paying more for a few years.
We know that:
- Drivers using their cellphones are FOUR times more likely to be in an accident.
- If current trends continue then the rate of road deaths from distracted driving will be exceeding those from drinking and driving by 2016.
