High Purity Prescription CBD Oil May Be An Effective COVID Therapy

The pandemic has spurred a great deal of research into treatments for COVID-19. A collaboration of scientists from the University of Louisville and the University of Chicago has been working on one specific line of enquiry – CBD oil.
Was CBD Oil Effective Therapy?
Their peer-reviewed research published in Science examines the ability of cannabidiol (CBD) to inhibit the replication of the SARS-COVID-2 virus’ ability to replicate. It appears that it has the potential to prevent and inhibit SARS-CoV-2 infection. They surveyed over 1200 American patients taking prescription CBD and determined that those people who were taking a threshold dose of 100 mg/mL orally had significantly lower rates of positive CBD test than the control group not using CBD.
The researchers noted that the results were robust meaning that across many different ways of measuring the data the fact remains that almost 25% fewer positive results were returned by CBD users. For people who were already taking CBD when tested half as many contracted COVID as compared to the control group (4.9% vs 9%).
CBD Oil Prevents Virus Replication in Human Lung Cells
The researchers went on to conduct many laboratory experiments infecting lung tissues with the COVID virus with or without treating them with CBD first. They found that the CBD inhibited viral replication of the growth genes. The test was done on several variants of COVID and remained consistent. CBD prevented the replication and spread of the virus systemically.
The study has concluded that high purity (97%) CBD inhibits the replication of SARS-CoV-2 in human lung cells. Researchers believe that CBD could act by blocking the viral entry into host cells at the time of infection or post-infection.
This IS NOT a DIY Therapy or Substitute for Vaccination Warn Researchers
Researchers warn the public that cannabis-derived substances are NOT substitutes for vaccination, rather that any CBD-derived therapies would be used as another tool in the fight against the pandemic.
