Rangers Led Shots On Goal But Couldn't Make Enough Stick

Darby Llewellyn and Ryan MacInnis scored in the Kitchener Rangers 3-2 overtime loss to the London Knights on Tuesday.

The Knights opened the scoring just past the six minute mark, when rookie Cliff Pu fed a pass across the front of the net to Zach Grzelewski. The Thunder Bay, ON native pitched a shot high over the blocker of Jake Paterson to record his fourth of the year, with a secondary assist from Benjamin Gleason.

Vetaran Max Domi added a second goal for the Knights less than three minutes later, lifting a close range shot over Paterson to record his 18th of the year. Fellow Arizona Coyotes prospect Christian Dvorak and rearguard Aiden Jamieson picked up assists on the play.

The Rangers hit the scoreboard near the midway point of the opening frame. Doug Blaisdell initiated the play, holding the puck in at the blueline and firing a shot on goal that was turned aside by Parsons. Winger Darby Llewellyn was at the crease to corral the rebound and slid a backhand shot behind the goaltender's pads. Nick Magyar also earned a helper on Llewellyn's 12th of the year.

The Rangers led shots on goal 16-10 after 20 minutes.

Ryan MacInnis pulled the Rangers even with a short-handed marker late in the second period. The sophomore pivot forced Dvorak to turnover the puck, and import forward Gustaf Franzen collected it near the Knights' blueline. The rookie from Sweden returned a pass to MacInnis, who slid it under Parsons to record his 12th of the season.

Kitchener continued to lead shots on goal in the middle frame by a 20-10 margin.

The 2-2 deadlock remained through the third period. The Rangers out-shot the Knights 14-8 as the game headed to overtime.

A power play goal from Matt Rupert lifted London to a 3-2 overtime win less than two minutes the extra frame. Domi found the Toronto Maple Leafs prospect near the faceoff dot, and Rupert wired a heavy shot high over Paterson's glove. His 17th of the year was also assisted by Dvorak, his second point of the night.
