UPDATE investigation of human remains in Kitchener

Waterloo Region, Ontario – On Friday March 20, 2015, shortly after 4pm, Waterloo Regional Police responded to the area of 10 Burn Place in Kitchener to investigate a report of human remains.

Homicide detectives and forensics officers were called and a search of the area by police confirmed the presence of human remains. A perimeter was established to help secure the area for further investigation and analysis. The remains were transported from the scene and scheduled for a post mortem examination in Hamilton.

Following the completion of the post mortem on March 24, 2015, homicide investigators are now able to identify the decedent as Kate Lynn Reid.

The post mortem has also confirmed investigators’ belief that she is the victim of homicide; however details relating to her cause of death are not being released to ensure the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

On March 7, 2015, police charged Hugh Rayburn McColl, 61, of Kitchener with Second Degree Murder and Committing an Indignity to a Dead Body. He remains in custody pending his next court appearance on March 25, 2015 in the Ontario Court of Justice in Kitchener.

Homicide detectives continue to probe the timeline and circumstances surrounding the death of Kate Lynn Reid and are appealing for information from the community that may assist the continuing investigation.
