Youth Dies In Police Shooting
Waterloo Region, ON – On Thursday April 2, 2015 shortly after 9:15 pm, Waterloo Regional Police Service were called to an incident on Brybeck Crescent in the city of Kitchener.
Upon arrival, police were involved in a shooting incident with a subject. The subject was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Police Interaction Goes Wrong
Family friends and supporters gathered to remember the young man killed in a police shooting last week.
Beau Baker, 20, was shot on the front steps of his apartment building at 77 Brybeck Cres. in Kitchener during what has been described byPolice Services as an "interaction" with police on Thursday night.
There are few details available as to how the incident went down, but it ultimately resulted in Baker being shot and killed by police on the front steps of the apartment building.
He was pronounced dead in hospital at 10:10 p.m.
The provincial Special Investigations Unit has assigned five investigators and three forensic identification officers to probe what happened. They are called in when police are involved in an incident where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
Regional Police have agreed to give family and friends the space to mourn in peaceful protest and stated they would not approach unless public safety becomes and issue.
SIU spokesperson Monica Hudon said one officer is the subject of the investigation and seven other officers are witnesses.
Waterloo Regional Police Staff Sgt. Mike Haffner said the officer will continue to work as scheduled while the investigation is underway and that he has been employed with the police service for less than 10 years.
A Mother Grieves
"My youngest son, Beau Baker, was fatally shot by the police last night. It will be a very difficult time, as you can imagine," his mother, Jackie Baker, wrote online.
"I won't be able to talk to you all in the next days, but I know we are in your prayers. We are devastated and not fully comprehending that he is gone."

As expressions of sympathy, donations to Wounded Warriors would be appreciated and can be arranged through the funeral home.
