Regional Police Officer Involved With Shooting Incident

Officer Shot In Face and Hand
Waterloo Region, ON – On Tuesday October 13, 2015 at approximately 5:20 pm., Waterloo Regional Police Service members were attempting to conduct a vehicle traffic stop of a 29 year old Kitchener male on terms not to possess firearms. The male stopped for traffic on Ottawa Street South at Nyberg Street, in the city of Kitchener.
As officers approached the vehicle, the male produced a firearm from within the vehicle and began to shoot at approaching officers striking a 29 year member in the face and hand with a pellet. The officer discharged his firearm striking the vehicle.
A tow truck driver observing the situation drove his tow truck into the front of the suspect’s car making it inoperable. The male was arrested by other attending officers without further incident.
The officer’s injuries are minor in nature, although he was transported to hospital for medical treatment.
The male faces numerous charges and will appear in Kitchener Court on October 14, 2015. He was not injured as a result of the interaction.
Ottawa Street will be closed for several hours as investigators process the scene.
