Paris Ringette Spring Tournament Suggests The Sport Is Growing In Leaps And Bounds

Local Sponsors Kick In To Bring Ringette Tournament To Fruition

This week, The Paris Ringette Association holds their Spring Tournament and it will take place at the Brant Sports Complex in the town of Paris, Ontario.

While perhaps Ringette isn't as well know as ice hockey it is growing annually and taking great strides in the direction of a solid, accepted sport for everyone.

Ringette Is A Quickly Growing FUN Sport

For those of us who are not familiar with the sport, Ringette is played on ice with equipment similar to Hockey, but with straight sticks, and a ring instead of a puck. The rules require frequent passing and teamwork, making this a fast sport!! As an association we encourage the development of self-confidence, cooperative team skills, being active for life, as well as the most important factor, Having Fun!

"This year is especially exciting," said Michelle Falkiner, spokesperson for the association. "We have had one of our highest numbers in registration for our tournament and we will be hosting 36 teams from all over Ontario, including a team from Finland. This means at this year’s tournament we will be hosting over 570 players and their families."

Ringette Has Arrived

The Paris Ringette Association has had incredible success in getting local businesses and groups to support the many levels of sponsorship including tournament sponsorship, division sponsorship, advertising, raffle and silent auction donations & player equipment donations.

Volunteerism Has Helped Make The Magic Happen

"I think it is important to note as well that our associations members and community have stepped up with door prizes and volunteer time at the tournament. We could not do a tournament like this without an amazing membership that supports our tournament 100%," said Falkiner.

Falkner said their association is very excited to host the 16AA division this year which has the elite players in the sport. There are teams from Cambridge, Napean, Northeastern Ontario, and even Finland in the division this year. The schedule can be found on the Paris Ringette website at the link below.

No Cost For Spectators

There is no cost to come to the Brant Sports Complex in Paris this weekend Friday to Sunday to watch some great ringette. We have an amazing silent auction and other fun events at the rink as well. On Saturday we host a bunnyfest for our youngest teams called bunny's.They have a lunch as a group and have some fun cheer and mascot competitions as well as play 2 games each team.

The tournament runs from February 17th-19th
