Cambridge Fire Department reports two positive COVID-19 cases

'Fire stations are being deep cleaned and sanitized for protection.'

The City of Cambridge is confirming today that two firefighters have tested positive for COVID-19.

As such, Region of Waterloo Public Health has declared a workplace outbreak at one of the fire stations. Cambridge Fire is following established pandemic procedures and protective measures are in place.

Anyone identified by Public Health to be a high-risk contact will be notified, and instructed to get tested and to self-isolate. Stations are being deep cleaned and sanitized.

Fire stations are not open to the general public, and firefighters who respond to calls are in full personal protective equipment for everyone’s safety at all times. Please note that service to our community and regular response operations will not be impacted.

The health and safety of our staff and our community is our number one priority. The City of Cambridge and the Fire Department will continue to work closely with Public Health and follow all guidelines.

To protect the privacy of those involved, no further information will be provided at this time.

*Please note a workplace outbreak is declared when at least two cases have a link in the workplace within a 14-day period where it’s reasonable that transmission occurred in the workplace.
