Civic Holiday Opens and Closures in KW

'Get out there and make the most of the long weekend.'

Summer is racing past. The civic holiday is here and all of us will try to squeeze as many activities into the weekend as we can.

Here is what's Open and what is closed:

Kitchener, Ontario – Kitchener City Hall will be closed on Monday, Aug. 1 for the Civic Holiday. Services normally offered by staff will be available again starting Tuesday, Aug. 2 at 8:30 a.m.

POOLS
The following pools will be open on Monday, Aug. 1:

· Kiwanis Park, from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

· Wilson Pool, from 12:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

· Harry Class Pool, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

· Idlewood Pool, from 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

Breithaupt Centre, Forest Heights Pool, Cameron Heights Pool and Lyle Hallman Pool will be closed on Monday, Aug. 1.

SPLASH PADS
City splash pads will be open during regular operating hours on Aug. 1.

KITCHENER MARKET
The market will be closed as usual on Sunday, July 31 and Monday, Aug. 1 and will reopen Tuesday, Aug 2.


KITCHENER PUBLIC LIBRARY
All Kitchener Public Library locations will be closed on Sunday, July 31 and Monday, Aug. 1.?


COMMUNITY CENTRES
All community centres will be closed on Monday, Aug. 1.

ARENAS
Activa Sportsplex, Sportsworld and Grand River Arena will be open Monday Aug. 1 evening for pre-booked rentals.


BUDD PARK

Budd Park indoor sport facility and offices will be closed on Monday, Aug. 1, while the outdoor sports fields will remain open for scheduled rentals.

The City of Waterloo has the following closures for the Civic Holiday, Monday August 1:

Bechtel Park Manulife Soccer & Sports Centre

Moses Springer Outdoor Pool

OPEN 12:15 to 8:45 p.m. for regularly scheduled programs (weather permitting)

Waterloo Region – Here is the list of Region of Waterloo service changes for the Civic Holiday on Monday, August 1.

What’s open on August 1:

  • Regional of Waterloo Customer Service line open 24/7 at 519-575-4400
  • Grand River Transit (GRT) will operate on a holiday service schedule. Holiday service is noted on all route schedules. GRT customer service is available at 519-585-7555 (24/7) or in-person at:
    • 105 King St. E., Kitchener | 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    • 35 Ainslie St. S., Cambridge | 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    • GRT Operations Centre at 250 Strasburg Rd., Kitchener, will be closed on August 1

  • Region of Waterloo International Airport
  • Region of Waterloo museums
  • Regular curbside collection of garbage, blue box, green bin, yard waste and bulky items. Please have items out by 7 a.m.
  • Welcome Spaces are open for Employment Services only (99 Regina, 150 Main, and 235 King)

What’s closed on August 1:

  • Cambridge and Waterloo waste sites will be closed for residential drop-off
  • All Regional administrative offices (99 Regina in Waterloo, 150 Frederick in Kitchener, 150 Main in Cambridge, Airport Administrative offices)
  • Region of Waterloo libraries
  • Home Child Care offices are closed. For urgent issues, call 519-575-4400 and ask for Home Child Care
  • Sunnyside Home reception and administration will be closed August 1, but visitors and caregivers are welcome
  • Sunnyside Wellness Centre remains closed for all services with the exception of physiotherapy appointments
  • Community Alzheimer Day programs
